The dwarf customization is one of Deep Rock Galactic’s strongest points, but to take advantage you first need to actually find cosmetics. There are multiple ways to obtain cosmetics in Deep Rock Galactic, and if you’re searching for certain ones, it’s important to know where to find them. Here is a guide to inform you of all of the ways you can get cosmetics, and what types of customizations you can expect from them!

1. Obtain Cosmetics at The Accessory Shop

The Store (aka The Accessory Shop) is the simplest way in Deep Rock Galactic to obtain cosmetics. Here you spend Credits or Phazyonite to obtain cosmetics of your choice. You can gain credits by doing missions or as rewards from assignments. Phazyonite can be obtained from mining the mineral if and when it appears in your missions. You can also get it as a reward in the Season Pass or when you spend enough Credits at The Store itself. The cosmetics sold in The Store are only physical changes to your dwarf, such as beards, skin colors, and armor. This means that pickaxe and weapon cosmetics can’t be found here.

2. Obtain Cosmetics at The Forge

In Deep Rock Galactic, The Forge is where you can craft your Matrix Core blueprints into actual items. Some of these blueprints are for physical cosmetics for your dwarves or color schemes for their weapons. One way you can get these Matrix Core blueprints is by completing Deep Dives and Elite Deep Dives. You can complete these once you promote one of your dwarves and they reach level 25. These Deep Dives will give you one Blank Matrix Core, one Overclock Matrix Core, and one Cosmetic Matrix Core. Another way you can get the Cosmetic Matrix Cores is by using Blank Matrix Cores in a Core Infuser, which is available after completing a Machine Event in your missions. These missions can only be started with a Tritolyte Key which is also obtained after promoting one of your dwarves. Note: this method of obtaining cosmetics is locked until you promote one of your dwarves, and you don’t get to choose what specific Cosmetic Matrix Core you will obtain.

3. Obtain Cosmetics at The Season Pass

The Season Pass is another way to get cosmetics in Deep Rock Galactic. There are two ways that you can obtain them from the Season Pass. One of which is the level system, whereby completing missions and specific season quests you will level up your Season Pass. Every level you complete will gain you a reward from the Season Terminal, and you can see the reward that you will get for each level there. Some of these rewards are materials, but many of them are also cosmetics for your dwarves. You don’t get to unlock them in the order that you want, but at least you will see what you are going to get. The other way to unlock cosmetics with the Season Pass is through the Cosmetic Tree. This is a part of the Season Terminal where you spend Scrip. You get Scrip by completing season quests, completing season events during missions, and gaining Season Pass levels. At the Cosmetic Tree you will see multiple cosmetics available for the player to unlock, mostly physical dwarf cosmetics such as hats and facial hair. However, you also have the season’s weapon skins which have a certain style for all weapon types. Unfortunately, you have to unlock some cosmetics before being able to unlock others. Despite this, you still have some control over what you are going to unlock which makes this a very consistent way to unlock cosmetics.

4. Obtain Cosmetics from a Lost Pack or Cargo Crate

Lost Packs and Cargo Crates have a chance to appear in your Deep Rock Galactic missions, but it’s not guaranteed. Lost Packs require you to find a helmet on the ground in a random spot in your mission. It will have a soft orange glow while emitting a “beep” sound at regular intervals. After finding the helmet, you can scan it to gain coordinates to a Lost Pack. Then the location will be shown by a pink marker on your terrain scanner. Arriving at the Lost Pack you will find plenty of materials and a random pickaxe cosmetic, weapon skin, or victory move. Cargo Crates can also be found in random locations in a mission. First you must find two batteries that are located somewhere nearby the Cargo Crate. They will softly glow orange and emit a “beep” sound like the helmet for the Lost Pack. After bringing the batteries to the Cargo Crate and repairing it, you will be rewarded with lots of materials along with a random pickaxe cosmetic, weapon skin, or victory move exactly like the Lost Pack. You can increase your odds of finding one or both of these encounters by taking missions that have a higher mission length. In Deep Rock Galactic, mission length 1 missions have a 15% chance for each encounter, mission length 2 missions have a 20% chance, and mission length 3 missions have a 35% chance each for encountering a Lost Pack or Cargo Crate.

5. Obtain Cosmetics from Assignments

Event assignments in Deep Rock Galactic have cosmetic hats for your dwarf upon completion of the assignment. These hats will have some feature that relates them to the event. Seasonal Events only happen once every year, so make sure to do the assignments or else you will have to wait another year! On the other hand, pickaxe hunts are an assignments you can do anytime – as long as you’ve reached a high enough player level. Upon completion of Pickaxe Hunts in Deep Rock Galactic you will be rewarded with an entire set of pickaxe parts.
